Psalms 140

To the director; a psalm to David.

140:1Take me, O lord, from the wicked man! Rescue me from the unjust man!

140:2The ones who considered iniquity in their heart; the entire day they deployed for wars.

140:3They sharpened their tongue as a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. PAUSE.

140:4Guard me, O lord, from the hand of the sinner! Take me away from unjust men who reasoned to trip up my footsteps!

140:5The proud hid a snare for me; and they extended lines for a snare for my foot; next to a road they placed an obstacle for me. PAUSE.

140:6I said to the lord, You are my God. Give ear, O lord, to the voice of my supplication!

140:7O Lord, O Lord, the power of my deliverance. You shadowed over my head in the day of battle.

140:8You should not deliver me, O lord, from my desire unto the sinner. They argue against me. You should not abandon me, lest at any time they should be raised up high. PAUSE.

140:9As for the head of them encircling me, the trouble of their lips shall cover them.

140:10Coals with fire shall fall upon them; you shall throw them down in miseries, and in no way should they stand.

140:11A talkative man shall not prosper upon the earth. Evils shall hunt an unjust man unto corruption.

140:12I know that the lord shall deal with the case of the poor, and the cause of the needy.

140:13Besides, the just shall make acknowledgment to your name, and the upright shall dwell with your presence.
