Psalms 73

A psalm to Asaph.

73:1O how good is God to Israel, to the ones straight in the heart.

73:2But my feet were a little shaken; my footsteps slipped a little.

73:3For I was jealous over the lawless things, viewing the peace of sinners.

73:4For there is no sign of reluctance in their death, nor confirmation in their whip.

73:5In toils of men they are not troubled, and with other men they will not be whipped.

73:6On account of this their pride held them to the end. They clothed themselves of their own injustice and impiety.

73:7Their injustice comes forth as from out of fatness. They went by disposition of heart.

73:8They considered and spoke in wickedness. They spoke injustice in the haughtiness.

73:9They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue went through upon the earth.

73:10On account of this my people shall return here; and full days shall be found with them.

73:11And they said, How did God know? and, Is there knowledge in the highest?

73:12Behold, these are the sinners, and they prosper into the eon, holding wealth.

73:13And I said, Surely in folly I justified my heart, and washed my hands in innocent things;

73:14and became for whipping all the day; and my reproof is in the mornings.

73:15If I had said, I shall describe thus; behold, in the generation of your sons, I have broken contract.

73:16And I undertook to know this, but it is toilsome before me;

73:17until of which time I should enter into the sanctuary of God, and should perceive to their latter end.

73:18Besides, on account of their deceits you appointed evils unto them; you threw them down in their being lifted up.

73:19O how they became for desolation. Suddenly they failed; they were destroyed because of their lawlessness.

73:20As a dream of one awakening, O lord, in your city, you will treat their image with contempt.

73:21For my heart was kindled, and my kidneys were changed.

73:22And I being with contempt, and not knowing, became brutish before you.

73:23But I was always with you; you held my right hand,

73:24and in your counsel you guided me, and with glory you received me.

73:25For what exists to me in the heaven? And besides you, what did I want upon the earth?

73:26My heart and my flesh failed. God is the strength of my heart, and God is my portion into the eon.

73:27For behold, the ones being far from you by their own makings shall perish. You utterly destroyed every one committing harlotry from you.

73:28But for me to cleave to God is good; to put my hope in the lord; for me to declare all your praises at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
