Matthew 23
23:1Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
23:2saying, Upon the chair of Moses sat the scribes and the Pharisees.
23:3All then, as much as they should say to you to give heed, you give heed and do! But according to their works do not do! for they speak and do not do.
23:4For they bind a heavy load and ones hard to bear, and place them upon the shoulders of men; but with their finger they do not want to move them.
23:5And all their works they do to be a spectacle to the men. And they widen their phylacteries, and magnify the decorative hems of their cloaks;
23:6and are fond of first place in the suppers, and the first seats in the synagogues,
23:7and the greetings in the markets, and to be called by the men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:8But you should not be called, Rabbi; for one is your mentor, the Christ, and all you are brethren.
23:9And call not any of yours upon the earth father; for there is one -- your father, the one in the heavens.
23:10Nor be called mentors; for one is your mentor -- the Christ.
23:11And the greater of you will be your servant.
23:12And whoever shall exalt himself, shall be humbled; and whoever shall humble himself, shall be exalted.
23:13Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you devour the houses of the widows, and as an excuse praying long; on account of this you shall receive more extra judgment.
23:14Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you lock the kingdom of the heavens before men; for you do not enter in, nor the ones entering do you allow to enter.
23:15Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you lead about the sea and the dry land, to make one convert, and whenever he becomes so, you make him a son of Gehenna -- more double than yourselves.
23:16Woe to you blind guides, the ones saying, Who ever should swear by an oath on the temple, it is nothing; but who ever should swear by an oath on the gold of the temple, he owes.
23:17Morons and blind; for what is greater, the gold, or the temple sanctifying the gold?
23:18And saying, Who ever should swear by an oath on the altar, it is nothing; but who ever should swear by an oath by the gift offering upon it, he owes.
23:19Morons and blind; for which is greater, the gift offering, or the altar sanctifying the gift offering?
23:20The one then swearing an oath by the altar, swears an oath by it, and by all the things upon it.
23:21And the one swearing an oath by the temple, swears an oath by it, and by the one dwelling in it.
23:22And the one swearing an oath by the heaven, swears an oath by the throne of God, and by the one sitting down upon it.
23:23Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for you tithe the mint, and the dill, and the cummin, and leave the heavier matters of the law -- the judgment, and the mercy, and the belief -- these necessary to do, and these are not allowed.
23:24Blind guides, the ones straining the gnat, but swallowing down a camel.
23:25Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside is full of seizure and intemperance.
23:26Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the thing within the cup and the dish, that their outside should also become clean.
23:27Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for you are like tombs being whitewashed, ones which outside indeed appear beautiful, but inside are full of bones of the dead and of all uncleanness.
23:28So also you from outside indeed appear to men as righteous, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and of lawlessness.
23:29Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for you build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the memorials of the righteous ones,
23:30and you say, If we were in the days of our fathers, we would not be their partners in the blood of the prophets.
23:31So that you witness against yourselves, that you are sons of the ones murdering the prophets.
23:32And you, you fill up the measure of your fathers.
23:33Serpents, offspring of vipers, how should you flee from the judgment of Gehenna?
23:34On account of this, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes; and of them you shall kill and crucify, and of them you will whip in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city;
23:35so that should come upon you all righteous blood having been poured out upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
23:36Amen I say to you that all these things shall come upon this generation.
23:37Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets, and stoning the ones sent to her. How often I wanted to assemble your children in which manner a hen assembles her nestlings under the wings, and you wanted not.
23:38Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
23:39For I say to you, In no way should you behold me from now, until whenever you should say, Being blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord.
