Matthew 17

17:1And after six days Jesus takes with himself Peter, and James, and John his brother, and he bears them unto a high mountain in private.

17:2And he transformed in front of them, and his face radiated as the sun. And the garments of his became white as the light.

17:3And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah with him, conversing together.

17:4And responding Peter said to Jesus, O Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you want, we shall make here three tents; to you one, and to Moses one, and one to Elijah.

17:5Yet of his speaking, behold, a cloud giving light overshadowed them, and behold, there was a voice from out of the cloud saying, This is my son the beloved, in whom I take pleasure in; hearken to him!

17:6And the disciples hearing fell upon their face, and they were fearful exceedingly.

17:7And coming forward, Jesus touched them, and said, Arise, and be not fearful!

17:8And having lifted up their eyes, they beheld no one except Jesus only.

17:9And in their going down from the mountain, Jesus gave charge to them, saying, Not to one should you tell the vision, until of which time the son of man should rise up from the dead.

17:10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

17:11And Jesus answering said to them, Elijah indeed comes first, and shall restore all things.

17:12And I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but they did to him as much as they wanted. So also the son of man is about to suffer by them.

17:13Then the disciples perceived that concerning John the Baptist he spoke to them.

17:14And of their coming to the multitude, there came forward to him a man kneeling to him, and saying,

17:15O Lord, show mercy on my son, for he acts lunatic, and he suffers badly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.

17:16And I brought him to your disciples, and they were not able to cure him.

17:17And responding Jesus said, O unbelieving and perverted generation, until when shall I be with you? Until when shall I endure you? Bring him to me here!

17:18And Jesus reproached him, and came forth from him the demon. And the child was cured from that hour.

17:19Then the disciples having come forward to Jesus in private, said, Why were we not able to cast it out?

17:20And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For amen I say to you, if you have belief as a kernel of mustard, you shall say to this mountain, Be crossed over from here to there, even it will cross over; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

17:21But this kind does not go forth except by prayer and fasting.

17:22And of their returning to Galilee, Jesus said to them, The son of man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men;

17:23and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they fretted exceedingly.

17:24And of their having come into Capernaum, came forward the ones receiving the double-drachmas to Peter, and said, Your teacher, does he not fulfill the double-drachmas?

17:25He says, Yes. And when he entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you assume, Simon? The kings of the earth -- from whom do they receive taxes or tribute, from their sons or from the strangers?

17:26Peter says to him, From the strangers. Jesus said to him, It is so, the sons are indeed free.

17:27But that we should not stumble them, having gone to the sea, throw a hook! and the first fish ascending take! And having opened its mouth, you will find a stater; that having taken, give it to them for me and you!
