Luke 3

3:1And in the fifteenth year of the governing of Tiberius Caesar, and the governing of Pontius Pilate of the Jews, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother being tetrarch of Iturea and Trachonitis the region, and Lysanias being tetrarch of Abilene,

3:2with chief priests Annas and Caiaphas, came the word of God unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

3:3And he went into all the place round about the Jordan proclaiming an immersion of repentance for a release of sins;

3:4as it has been written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, A voice yelling in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight his roads!

3:5Every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be lowered; and the crooked will be for straight, and the rough for smooth ways;

3:6and all flesh shall see the deliverance of God.

3:7He said then to the multitudes coming forth to be immersed by him, Offspring of vipers, who indicated to you to flee from the wrath about to be?

3:8Do then fruits worthy of the repentance! For you should not begin to say among yourselves, We have father Abraham; for I say to you, that God is able from out of these stones to raise children to Abraham.

3:9But already even the axe is situated at the root of the trees. Every tree then not producing good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.

3:10And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then shall we do?

3:11And answering he says to them, The one having two inner garments, share with the one not having! And the one having foods, in like manner do!

3:12And there came also tax collectors to be immersed, and they said to him, Teacher, what shall we do?

3:13And he said to them, exact nothing more beyond that being set in order to you!

3:14And soldiers asked him also, saying, And we, what shall we do? And he said to them, No one should you shake up nor extort, and let your rations be sufficient!

3:15And the people were expecting, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John, if perhaps he may be the Christ.

3:16John answered all together, saying, I indeed immerse you in water, but comes the one stronger than me, of whom I am not fit to untie the strap of his sandals; he will immerse you in holy spirit and in fire;

3:17of whom the winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather the grain into his storehouse; and the straw he will incinerate with inextinguishable fire.

3:18And indeed then many other things comforting he announced good news to the people.

3:19But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife of his brother Philip, and concerning all the evils which Herod did,

3:20added also this unto all -- that he imprisoned John in the prison.

3:21And it came to pass in the immersing all the people, and Jesus being immersed and praying, the heaven was opened,

3:22and the holy spirit came down bodily in a form as a dove upon him, and a voice out of heaven came, saying, You are my son the beloved; in you I take pleasure.
