John 1

1:1In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.

1:2This one was in the beginning with God.

1:3All through him existed, and apart from him existed not even one thing which exists.

1:4In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

1:5And the light in the darkness appears, and the darkness overtook it not.

1:6There existed a man being sent by God, the name to him -- John.

1:7This one came for a witness that he should witness concerning the light, that all should believe through him.

1:8That one was not the light, but that he should witness concerning the light.

1:9The true light was which lightens every man coming into the world.

1:10He was in the world, and the world by him existed, and the world knew him not.

1:11Unto his own he came, and his own received him not.

1:12But as many as received him, he gave to them authority to become children of God, to the ones believing in his name;

1:13the ones who not from blood, nor from will of flesh, nor from will of man, but from God were born.

1:14And the word became flesh, and tented among us, and we saw his glory, glory as an only child of the father, full of favor and truth.

1:15John witnessed concerning him, and cried out, saying, This was whom I said, The one coming after me was before me, for he was foremost over me.

1:16And from out of his fullness we all received, even favor upon favor.

1:17For the law was given through Moses; the favor and the truth came through Jesus Christ.

1:18No one has seen God at any time; the only born son, the one being in the bosom of the father, that one described him.

1:19And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they should ask him, Who are you?

1:20And he acknowledged, and did not deny; and acknowledged that, I am not the Christ.

1:21And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he says, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No.

1:22They said then to him, Who are you? that an answer we should give to the ones having sent us; what say you concerning yourself?

1:23He said, I am a voice yelling in the wilderness, Straighten the way of the lord! as said Isaiah the prophet.

1:24And the ones being sent were of the Pharisees.

1:25And they asked him, and said to him, Why then do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?

1:26John answered to them, saying, I immerse in water; but in the midst of you stands whom you know not.

1:27He is the one coming after me, who exists before me, of whom I am not worthy that I should untie his strap of the sandal.

1:28These things in Bethany took place on the other side of the Jordan, where John was immersing.

1:29The next day John sees Jesus coming to him, and he says, See the lamb of God! the one carrying the sin of the world.

1:30This is concerning of whom I said, After me comes a man, who was before me, for he was foremost over me.

1:31And I did not know him; but that he should be made manifest to Israel -- on account of this I came in the water immersing.

1:32And John witnessed, saying that, I saw the spirit descending as a dove from out of heaven, and it remained upon him.

1:33And I did not know him; but the one having sent me forth to immerse in water, that one said to me, Upon whom ever you should behold the spirit descending and remaining upon him, he is the one immersing by holy spirit.

1:34And I have seen, and I have witnessed that this is the son of God.

1:35The next day again John stood, and two of his disciples.

1:36And looking at Jesus walking, he says, Behold the lamb of God!

1:37And the two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.

1:38And Jesus having turned, and seeing them following, says to them What do you seek? And they said to him, Rabbi, which is to say, being translated, Teacher, where do you stay?

1:39He says to them, Come and see! They came and saw where he stayed, and they stayed with him that day. And the hour was about the tenth.

1:40Andrew the brother of Simon Peter was one of the two of the ones having heard from John, and having followed him.

1:41He first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found the Messiah, which is being translated, Christ.

1:42And he led him to Jesus. And looking at him, Jesus said, You are Simon the son of Jonah, you shall be called Cephas; which is translated, A piece of rock.

1:43The next day he wanted to go forth into Galilee, and he finds Philip, and Jesus says to him, Follow me!

1:44And Philip was from Bethsaida, from out of the city of Andrew and Peter.

1:45Philip finds Nathanael, and says to him, The one whom Moses wrote in the law, and the prophets, we have found -- Jesus the son of Joseph, the one from Nazareth.

1:46And Nathanael said to him, Is anything good able to be from out of Nazareth? Philip says to him, Come and see!

1:47Jesus beheld Nathanael coming to him, and says concerning him, See! truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.

1:48Nathanael says to him, From what place do you know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip calling you, being under the fig-tree, I beheld you.

1:49Nathanael responded and says to him, Rabbi, you are the son of God, you are the king of Israel.

1:50Jesus responded and said to him, Because I said to you, I beheld you underneath the fig-tree, you believe? Greater things than these you shall see.

1:51And he says to him, Amen, amen, I say to you, From now on you shall see the heaven opening, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the son of man.
