Luke 2

2:1And it came to pass in those days, went forth a decree by Caesar Augustus to register all the habitable world.

2:2This census first took place of Cyrenius governing Syria.

2:3And all went forth to register each unto his own city.

2:4And Joseph also ascended from Galilee, from out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (on account of his being from the house and family of David),

2:5to be registered with Mary, to the one being espoused to him as wife, being pregnant.

2:6And it came to pass in their being there, the days were fulfilled of her to give birth.

2:7And she gave birth to her son the first-born, and she swaddled him, and laid him in the stable, because there was no place for them in the lodging.

2:8And shepherds were in the same place living outdoors and keeping watches at night over their flock.

2:9And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and glory of the Lord shone about them, and they feared a great fear.

2:10And the angel said to them, Fear not! for behold I announce to you good news -- great joy which shall be to all people.

2:11For was born to you today a deliverer who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.

2:12And this is the sign to you; you shall find the babe being swaddled, lying in a stable.

2:13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly military praising God, and saying,

2:14Glory in the highest to God, and upon earth peace, among men with benevolence.

2:15And it came to pass as the angels went forth from them into the heaven, that the men, the shepherds said to one another, We should go indeed unto Bethlehem, and behold this thing taking place, which the Lord made known to us.

2:16And they came having hastened, and discovered both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the stable.

2:17And beholding, they made known concerning the thing being spoken to them concerning this child.

2:18And all the ones having heard wondered concerning the things being spoken by the shepherds to them.

2:19But Mary preserved all these things, uniting them in her heart.

2:20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all which they heard and beheld, as it was told to them.

2:21And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the child, that his name was called Jesus, the one being called by the angel before his being conceived in the belly.

2:22And when the days were fulfilled of her cleansing, according to the law of Moses, they led him unto Jerusalem to render to the Lord,

2:23(as it has been written in the law of the Lord that, Every male opening wide the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

2:24and to give a sacrifice according to the thing being said in the law of the Lord -- a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.

2:25And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and reverent, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and holy spirit was upon him.

2:26And there was to him a receiving of a divine message by the holy spirit to not see death before he should behold the Christ of the Lord.

2:27And he came in the spirit into the temple. And in the bringing the child Jesus by the parents, for them to do according to the thing accustomed by the law for him,

2:28that he received it into his embrace, and he blessed God, and said,

2:29Now loosen your servant, O master, according to your word, in peace.

2:30For my eyes saw your deliverance,

2:31which you prepared before the face of all the peoples;

2:32a light for an uncovering of nations, and glory of your people Israel.

2:33And Joseph was marveling and his mother over the things being spoken concerning him.

2:34And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this one is situated for a downfall and a rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign being disputed;

2:35(and even you, a broadsword shall go through your soul,) so that the thoughts of many hearts should be uncovered.

2:36And there was Anna a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher; she was advanced in many days, having lived seven years with a husband from her virginity,

2:37and she was a widow about eighty-four years, who did not leave from the temple; with fastings and supplications serving night and day.

2:38And she, the same hour standing by, confessed to the Lord, and spoke concerning him to all the ones waiting for a ransoming in Jerusalem.

2:39And as they finished all together the things according to the law of the Lord, they returned unto Galilee, unto their own city Nazareth.

2:40And the child grew and was fortified in spirit, being filled with wisdom; and favor of God was upon it.

2:41And his parents went each year unto Jerusalem to the holiday of the passover.

2:42And when he was twelve years old, of their ascending unto Jerusalem according to the custom of the holiday,

2:43and having finished the days, in their returning, the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother did not know.

2:44But thinking him to be in the group, they came a day's journey; and they searched him out among the relatives and among the acquaintances.

2:45And not finding him, they returned unto Jerusalem seeking him.

2:46And it came to pass after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and questioning them.

2:47And all the ones hearing him were amazed by the understanding and his answers.

2:48And seeing him, they were overwhelmed. And his mother said to him, Child, why did you so to us? Behold, your father and I were grieving seeking you.

2:49And he said to them, Why is it that you seek me, do you not know that it is necessary for me to be among the things of my father?

2:50And they did not perceive the saying which he spoke to them.

2:51And he went down with them and came into Nazareth, and he was being submitted to them. And his mother kept carefully all these sayings in her heart.

2:52And Jesus progressed in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
