Exodus 33

33:1And the lord said to Moses, Go forth, ascend from here, you and your people! whom you led from out of the land of Egypt, into the land which I swore by an oath to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, To your seed I will give it.

33:2And I will send along my angel before your face; and he will cast out the Amorite, and Hittite, and Perizzite, and Gergesite, and Hivite, and Jebusite, and Canaanite.

33:3And I will bring you into a land flowing milk and honey. For I will not go up with you, because you are a hard-necked people, that I should not completely consume you in the way.

33:4And the people hearing this severe saying, mourned in mourning.

33:5And the lord said to the sons of Israel, You are a people hard-necked; see that I do not bring another calamity upon you! and should completely consume you. Now then remove your glorious apparels, and the ornament! and I will show to you what I will do to you.

33:6And the sons of Israel removed their ornamentation, and the attire at the mountain of Horeb.

33:7And Moses, taking his tent, pitched outside the camp far from the camp. And it was called -- Tent of Testimony. And it came to pass, all the ones seeking the lord went forth unto the tent outside the camp.

33:8And whenever Moses entered into the tent outside the camp, all the people stood watching, each one by the door of his tent. And they contemplated Moses' going away unto his entering into the tent.

33:9And as Moses entered into the tent, the column of cloud came down and stood at the door of the tent, and he spoke to Moses.

33:10And all the people saw the column of cloud standing by the door of the tent. And all the people stood. And they did obeisance, each from the door of his tent.

33:11And the lord spoke to Moses face to face, as if any might speak to his own friend. And he retired into the camp. And the attendant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not go forth from out of the tent.

33:12And Moses said to the lord, Behold, you say to me, Lead this people! But you manifested not to me whom you shall send along with me. But you said to me, I know you above all, and you have favor with me.

33:13If then I have found favor before you, reveal to me yourself knowingly! that I might see you, how ever I should be found in favor before you; and that I might know, that this nation is your people.

33:14And he says, I myself will go before you, and will rest you.

33:15And he says to him, Unless you yourself should go with us, you should not lead me from here.

33:16And how will it truly be made known that I have found favor by you -- I and also your people, unless you are going with us, and both I and your people will be glorified by all the nations, as many as are upon the earth?

33:17And the lord said to Moses, And this word which you have said I will do to you, for you have found favor before me, and I know you above all.

33:18And he says, Show to me your own glory!

33:19And he said, I will go by in front of you in my glory; and I will call the name, the lord, before you; and I will show mercy on whom ever I should show mercy, and I will pity whom ever I should pity.

33:20And he said, You will not be able to see my face, for not in any way may man see my face, and shall live.

33:21And the lord said, Behold, a place by me. And you shall stand upon the rock;

33:22and when ever my glory should go by, even I will put you into an opening in the rock, and I will shelter with my hand upon you until whenever I should go by.

33:23And I shall remove the hand, and then you shall see the rear of me, but my face will not appear to you.
