Psalms 109

To the director; a psalm to David.

109:1O God of my praise, you should not remain silent;

109:2for the mouth of the sinner, and the mouth of the deceitful one opened against me; they spoke against me with a deceitful tongue;

109:3and with words of hatred they encircled me; and they waged war against me without charge.

109:4Instead of the loving me, they slandered me; but I prayed.

109:5And they placed against me bad things for good things; and hatred for my affection.

109:6Place the sinner against him, and let the devil stand at his right hand!

109:7In his being judged, may he go forth having been condemned; and let his prayer become as sin!

109:8Let his days become few, and may another take his overseeing!

109:9Let his sons become orphans, and his wife a widow!

109:10In being shaken up, let his sons change residence, and let them beg! Let them be cast out from their areas!

109:11Let the money-lender search out all as much as exists to him, and let strangers plunder his toils!

109:12Let there not exist to him a shielder, nor let there be one pitying his orphans!

109:13Let his children be given for devastation! In one generation let his name be wiped away!

109:14May the lawlessness of his fathers be called to mind before the lord; and may the sin of his mother not be wiped away.

109:15Let them be before the lord always! and may their memorial be utterly destroyed from the land.

109:16Because he did not remember to perform mercy, but pursued a needy and poor man, and vexing the heart to kill him.

109:17And he loved a curse, and it shall come to him; and he did not want a blessing, and it shall be far from him.

109:18And he put on the curse as a cloak, and it entered as water into his insides, and as oil in his bones.

109:19Let it be to him as a cloak which he puts around, and as a belt which he always girds himself!

109:20This is the work of the ones slandering me by the lord, and the ones speaking evil against my soul.

109:21And you, O lord, O Lord, deal with me because of your name, for your mercy is gracious!

109:22Rescue me, for I am poor and needy! and my heart is disturbed within me.

109:23As shade in its turning aside, I was taken away in return; I was shaken away as locusts.

109:24My knees weakened from fasting, and my flesh was changed through want of oil.

109:25And I became scorn to them; they beheld me; they shook their heads.

109:26Help me, O lord my God, and deliver me according to your mercy!

109:27And let them know that this is your hand! and you, O lord, did it.

109:28They shall curse themselves, but you shall bless. The ones rising up against me, let them be ashamed! but your servant shall be glad.

109:29Let the ones slandering me put on shame, and let them put their shame around as a garment!

109:30I will make acknowledgment to the lord -- exceedingly. With my mouth and in the midst of many I will praise him.

109:31For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to deliver from the ones pursuing my soul.
