Matthew 14

14:1In that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report of Jesus.

14:2And he said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and because of this the works of power are exerted in him.

14:3For Herod having held John, bound him and put him in prison, on account of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother.

14:4For John said to him, It is not allowed to you to have her.

14:5And wanting to kill him, he feared the multitude, for they held him as a prophet.

14:6And a birthday being celebrated of Herod, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and she pleased Herod.

14:7Whereupon with an oath he acknowledged to give to her what ever she asked.

14:8And she, being forced by her mother -- Give to me, she says, here upon a platter the head of John the Baptist!

14:9And the king fretted, but on account of the oaths, and the ones reclining together with him, he bid it to be given.

14:10And having sent forth, he beheaded John in the prison.

14:11And his head was brought upon a platter, and was given to the young woman. And she brought it to her mother.

14:12And his disciples having come carried the body, and buried it. And having come, they reported to Jesus.

14:13And Jesus having heard withdrew from there in a boat unto a desolate place in private. And having heard, the multitudes followed him on foot from the cities.

14:14And having come forth, Jesus beheld a great multitude, and he was moved with compassion over them, and he cured their ill ones.

14:15And evening having become, there came forward to him his disciples, saying, The place is desolate, and the hour already went by; dismiss the multitudes, that having gone forth into the towns they should buy foods for themselves!

14:16But Jesus said to them, No need do they have to go forth, you give to them yourselves something to eat!

14:17And they say to him, We do not have anything here except for five bread loaves and two fishes.

14:18And he said, Bring them to me here!

14:19And having bid the multitudes to lie down upon the grass, and having taken the five bread loaves, and the two fishes, having looked up into the heaven, he blessed. And having broken, he gave to the disciples the bread loaves, and the disciples to the multitudes.

14:20And all ate and were filled. And they lifted the abounding pieces -- twelve hampers full.

14:21And the ones having eaten were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.

14:22And immediately Jesus compelled his disciples to step into the boat, and to lead before him unto the other side, until of which he should dismiss the multitudes.

14:23And having dismissed the multitudes, he ascended into the mountain in private to pray. And evening being come, he was there alone.

14:24And the boat was already in the midst of the sea, being tormented by the waves; for the wind was adverse.

14:25And the fourth watch of the night Jesus went forth to them walking upon the sea.

14:26And the disciples seeing him walking upon the sea were disturbed, saying that, It is a phantom! And from the fear they cried out.

14:27And immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Courage! I am he, do not be fearful!

14:28And responding to him, Peter said, O Lord, if you are he, bid me to come to you upon the waters!

14:29And he said, Come! And Peter descending from the boat walked upon the waters to go to Jesus.

14:30But seeing the strong wind, he feared. And beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, O Lord, save me!

14:31And immediately Jesus having stretched out the hand took hold of him, and says to him, O one of little belief, for why did you hesitate?

14:32And of their stepping into the boat, the wind abated.

14:33And the ones in the boat having come did obeisance to him, saying, Truly you are son of God.

14:34And having passed through, they came unto the land of Gennesaret.

14:35And having recognized him, the men of that place sent into all that round about place, and they brought to him all the ones having illnesses.

14:36And they enjoined him that only they might touch the decorative hem of his cloak. And as many as touched were delivered.
