Acts 12

12:1And at that time Herod the king put upon the hands to afflict some of the ones of the assembly.

12:2And he did away with James the brother of John by the sword.

12:3And having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded to seize also Peter, (and they were the days of the unleavened breads)

12:4whom also having laid hold of, put into prison, having delivered him up to four parties of four soldiers to guard him, wanting after the passover to lead him to the people.

12:5Then indeed Peter was given heed to in the prison; and there was intense prayer taking place by the assembly unto God for him.

12:6And when Herod was about to lead him before them in that night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, being bound with two chains; and guards before the door kept the prison.

12:7And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by, and a light radiated in the building; and having struck the side of Peter, he roused him, saying, Rise up quickly! And the chains fell off of him from his hands.

12:8And the angel said to him, Gird yourself and tie on your sandals! And he did so. And he says to him, Put on your cloak and follow me!

12:9And going forth, he followed him; and he did not know that it was true -- the thing taking place by the angel; but he thought he was seeing a vision.

12:10And having gone through a first guard and a second, they came unto the gate of iron, the one bearing into the city, which by itself opened to them. And having come forth, they went by one street, and immediately the angel separated from him.

12:11And Peter having come to himself said, Now I know truly that the Lord sent his angel, and rescued me from the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12:12And being fully conscious, he came unto the house of Mary the mother of John, of the one being called Mark; where there were a fit amount being gathered together and praying.

12:13And Peter having knocked at the door of the vestibule, there came forward a maidservant to listen, by name Rhoda.

12:14And having recognized the voice of Peter, from the joy she did not open the vestibule; but having ran in, she reported Peter to be standing before the vestibule.

12:15But the ones by her said, You are maniacal. But she contended obstinately thus to have been. And they said, It is his angel.

12:16But Peter continued knocking; and having opened, they beheld him, and were amazed.

12:17And having waved to them with the hand to be quiet, he described to them how the Lord led him from out of the prison. And he said, Report to James and to the brethren these things! And having come forth he went to another place.

12:18And day having come, there was no little disturbance among the soldiers to what then became of Peter.

12:19And Herod seeking him anxiously, and not finding, having questioned the guards, he urged them to be taken away. And having gone down from Judea to Caesarea, he spent time.

12:20And Herod was violently incensed with the Tyrians and Sidonians; but with one accord they were at hand with him, and having persuaded Blastus, the one over the bedroom of the king, they asked peace; because their place was maintained by the royalty.

12:21And Herod appointed a day, having put on royal attire, and having sat upon the rostrum, delivered a public address to them.

12:22And the people sounded out, saying The voice of a god, and not a man.

12:23And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God. And becoming worm-eaten, he expired.

12:24But the word of God grew and multiplied.

12:25And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled the service, having taken along also John, the one called Mark.
