1 Chronicles 11

11:1And every man of Israel gathered together to David in Hebron, saying, Behold, we are of your bones and of your flesh.

11:2And indeed yesterday and indeed the third day before in Saul being king, you were the one bringing in and leading out Israel. And the lord your God said to you, You tend my people Israel, and you shall be for leader over my people Israel.

11:3And all the elders of Israel came to the king in Hebron. And king David ordained with them a covenant in Hebron before the lord. And they anointed David for king over Israel, according to the word of the lord through the hand of Samuel.

11:4And king David and all Israel went into Jerusalem -- this is Jebus. And the Jebusites were there, the ones dwelling the land

11:5And the ones dwelling Jebus said to David, You shall not enter here. And David was first to take the citadel of Zion -- this is the city of David.

11:6And David said, Anyone beating the Jebusites at first, he will be as a ruler and as commandant. And Joab son of Zeruiah ascended against them at first, and he became as a ruler.

11:7And David stayed in the citadel; because of this he called it, City of David.

11:8And he built the city round about from the Akra and unto the circuit. And Joab procured the rest of the city.

11:9And David went going and being magnified. And the lord almighty was with him.

11:10And these are the rulers of the mighty ones, the ones who were with David, the ones growing strong with him in his kingdom with all Israel, to give him reign, according to the word of the lord over Israel.

11:11And this is the number of the mighty ones of David -- Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, first of the thirty; this one unsheathed his broadsword upon three hundred slain at one time.

11:12And after him -- Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite -- this one was among the three mighty ones.

11:13This one was with David in Pas-dammin, and the Philistines were gathered together there for war, and there was a portion of a field full of barley, and the people fled from the face of the Philistines.

11:14And he stood in the midst of the portion and, delivered it, and he struck the Philistines. And the lord performed a great deliverance.

11:15And there went down three of the thirty rulers to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the camp of the Philistines pitched in the valley of the giants.

11:16And David was then in the citadel, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

11:17And David desired, and he said, Who will give me a drink of water from the well at Beth-lehem, the one at the gate?

11:18And the three tore up the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water from the well of Beth-lehem, which was at the gate, and they took it, and came to David. And David did not want to drink it. And he gave it as a libation to the lord,

11:19and he said, Kindness to me, O God, to do this thing. Shall I drink blood of these men with their lives, no. For with their lives they brought it, and I do not want to drink it. These things the three mighty men did.

11:20And Abishai the brother of Joab, this one was ruler of the three. This one unsheathed his broadsword against three hundred slain at one time; this one was famous among the other three.

11:21Of the three he was more honorable above the two, and he became to them as a ruler, but unto the first three he arrived not at.

11:22And Benaiah, son of Jehoiada son of a mighty man (many were his works) from Kabzeel; he struck the two lion-like ones of Moab; also this one went down and struck the lion in the pit in the day of snow.

11:23And this one struck the Egyptian man, a man five cubits tall; and in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear as the beam of a loom of one weaving. And Benaiah went against him with a rod, and removed the spear from the hand of the Egyptian, and he killed him by his spear.

11:24These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did. And to this one was a name among the three mighty ones.

11:25He was honored above the thirty, but to the first three he did not arrive. And David placed him over his family.
