2 Chronicles 32

32:1And after these words, and this truth, came Sennacherib king of the Assyrians. And he came unto Judah, and he camped about the walled cities, and he spoke at first to take them.

32:2And Hezekiah beheld that Sennacherib comes, and his face was to wage war against Jerusalem.

32:3And he consulted with his elders, and the mighty ones to obstruct the waters of the springs which was outside the city, and they vigorously assisted him.

32:4And he brought together many people, and they obstructed the waters of the springs, and the rushing stream separating through the city, saying, Should the king of the Assyrians come and find much water, and grow strong?

32:5And Hezekiah strengthened himself, and built up every wall having been razed, and towers, and another outside wall around. And he strengthened the elevation of the city of David, and carefully prepared many weapons.

32:6And he put rulers of war over the people. And they were brought together to him upon the square of the gate of the city. And he spoke unto their heart, saying,

32:7Be strong and be manly! fear not, nor be terrified from the face of the king of Assyria, nor from the face of any of the nations with him! for with us are more over the ones with him.

32:8With him are arms of flesh, but with us is the lord our God, to deliver and to wage our war. And the people relied with confidence upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

32:9And after these things Sennacherib king of the Assyrians sent his servants unto Jerusalem. And he was by Lachish, and all his military with him. And he sent to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah in Jerusalem, saying,

32:10Thus says Sennacherib king of the Assyrians, Upon whom do you rely, that you settle in the stronghold in Jerusalem?

32:11Has not Hezekiah deceived you to deliver you into death, and into hunger, and into thirst, saying, The lord our God shall deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria?

32:12Is this not Hezekiah who removed his altars, and his high places, and said to Judah, and to the ones dwelling in Jerusalem, saying, Before this altar you shall do obeisance, and upon it you shall burn incense?

32:13Do you not know what I and my fathers did to all the peoples of the places. In being able, were the gods of the nations of all the earth able to deliver their people from my hand?

32:14Who among all the gods of these nations, which my fathers utterly destroyed, is the one who is able to rescue his people from my hand, that your God shall be able to deliver you from out of my hand?

32:15And now, let not Hezekiah deceive you, and not persuade you to do according to these things, and do not trust him; for in no way was a god of any nation and kingdom able to deliver his people from out of my hand, and from out of the hand of my fathers. For in no way shall your God deliver you from out of my hand.

32:16And still his servants spoke against the lord God, and against Hezekiah his servant.

32:17And he wrote a scroll to berate the lord God of Israel. And he said concerning him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the earth did not rescue their people from my hand, so in no way shall the God of Hezekiah rescue his people from out of my hand.

32:18And they yelled with a great voice in Jewish unto the people of Jerusalem upon the wall, to make them afraid of them, and to tear them down, so as to first take the city.

32:19And he spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as also against the gods of the peoples of the land -- the works of the hands of men.

32:20And Hezekiah the king prayed, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet concerning these things, and they yelled unto the heaven.

32:21And the lord sent an angel, and he obliterated every mighty warrior, and ruler, and commandant in the camp of the king of Assyria. And he returned with shame of face into his land. And he entered into the house of his god, and some of the ones coming forth from his belly overthrew him by the broadsword.

32:22And the lord delivered Hezekiah and the ones dwelling in Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria, and from the hand of all, and rested them round about.

32:23And many brought gifts to the lord in Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah. And he was elevated in the eyes of all the nations after these things.

32:24In those days Hezekiah became ill unto death, and he prayed to the lord. And he heeded him, and gave to him a sign.

32:25And Hezekiah rendered not according to the recompense which he recompensed to him; but he exalted his heart. And wrath came upon him, and upon Judah, and Jerusalem.

32:26And Hezekiah was humbled from the haughtiness of his heart, he and the ones dwelling in Jerusalem. And the wrath of the lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

32:27And there came to Hezekiah riches and glory -- exceedingly much. And he made himself treasuries of silver, and of gold, and of valuable stone, and for aromatics; and he made armories, and storehouses for all the items of the desirable things;

32:28and cities for the produce of the grain, and wine, and olive oil; and stables for every beast, and havens for the flocks.

32:29And he made cities for himself, and possessions of sheep and oxen in abundance; for the lord gave to him exceedingly vast belongings.

32:30Hezekiah himself obstructed the delivery of the water of Gihon -- the upper part, and he straightened it below to the west of the city of David. And the way of Hezekiah was prospered in all his works.

32:31And thus in the matters concerning the ambassadors of the rulers of the ones from Babylon being sent to him, to inquire of him of the miracle which took place in the land, that the lord abandoned him, to test him, to know the things in his heart.

32:32And the rest of the words of Hezekiah, and his mercies, behold, they are written in the prophecy of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, and upon the scroll of the kings of Judah and Israel.

32:33And Hezekiah slept with his fathers. And they entombed him in the ascent of the burying-places of the sons of David. And glory and honor they gave to him in his death, even all Judah, and the ones dwelling in Jerusalem. And Manasseh his son reigned instead of him.
