2 Chronicles 17

17:1And Jehoshaphat his son reigned instead of him. And Jehoshaphat strengthened against Israel.

17:2And he put a force in all the fortified cities of Judah, and he put leaders in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father first took.

17:3And the lord was with Jehoshaphat, for he went in the first ways of David his father; and he did not seek after the idols,

17:4but he sought after the lord God of his father, and by his commandments he went, and not according to the works of Israel.

17:5And the lord straightened the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat, and there became to him much riches and glory.

17:6And his heart was raised up high in the ways of the lord. And again he removed the high places and the sacred groves from the land of Judah.

17:7And in the third year of his kingship, he sent his leaders, and the sons of the mighty ones -- Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Michaiah to teach in the cities of Judah.

17:8And with them the Levites -- Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

17:9And they taught in Judah, and with them was the book of the law of the lord. And they went through in the cities of Judah and taught the people.

17:10And there came to pass a change of state of the lord upon all the kingdoms of the land round about Judah, and they did not wage war against Jehoshaphat.

17:11And from the Philistines they brought to Jehoshaphat gifts and silver. And also the Arabians brought to him rams of the flocks -- seven thousand seven hundred; he-goats -- seven thousand seven hundred.

17:12And Jehoshaphat was going in greatness unto height, and he built places of abode in Judah, and fortified cities.

17:13And many works were taking place by him in Judah. And mighty men warriors being strong were in Jerusalem.

17:14And this is the number of them according to the houses of their families. And to Judah as commanders of thousands -- Adnah the ruler, and with him mighty sons of power -- three hundred thousand.

17:15And after him Johahnan the ruler, and with him two hundred eighty thousand.

17:16And after him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, the one feeling eager to the lord; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of power.

17:17And from Benjamin the mighty man of power Eliada, and with him bowmen and men armed with small shields -- two hundred thousand.

17:18And after him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred eighty thousand mighty men of war.

17:19These were the ones officiating to the king, outside of the ones whom the king put in the fortified cities in all Judea.
