2 Chronicles 14

14:1And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they entombed him in the city of David. And Asa his son took reign instead of him. In the days of Asa the land of Judah was quiet for ten years.

14:2And he did the good and the upright thing before the lord his God.

14:3And he removed the altars of the aliens, and the high places, and he broke the monuments, and cut down the sacred groves.

14:4And he spoke to Judah, to seek after the lord God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandments.

14:5And he removed from all of the cities of Judah the altars and the idols; and the kingdom was at peace before him.

14:6And he built walled cities in the land of Judah; for there was peace in the land, and there was no war to him in these years, for the lord gave rest to him.

14:7And he said to Judah, We should build these cities, and we should make walls, and towers, and gates, and bars, in which land we dominate, for as we sought the lord our God, he sought us, and rested us round about. And they built and prospered.

14:8And there was to Asa a force of armor-bearers lifting shields and spears in Judah -- three hundred thousand. And in Benjamin men armed with small shields, and bowmen -- two hundred and eighty thousand, all these were warriors of power.

14:9And Zarai the Ethiopian came forth against them in a force with a thousand thousand, and with three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah.

14:10And Asa came forth to meet against him, and he deployed for war in the ravine to the north of Mareshah.

14:11And Asa yelled to the lord his God, and said, O lord, it is not impossible for you to deliver by many or by few. Help us, O lord our God, for upon you we yield, and in your name we came against this vast multitude. O lord our God. You are the God. Let not man prevail against you!

14:12And the lord struck the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

14:13And Asa pursued them and his people unto Gerar. And the Ethiopians fell so as to not be in procurement of safety for themselves; for they were defeated before the lord, and before his force. And they despoiled many spoils.

14:14And they knocked down their towns round about Gerar; for there became a change of state of the lord upon them. And they plundered all their cities; for many spoils came to them.

14:15And indeed the tents of the cattle they cut down, and they took many sheep and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
