1 Corinthians 14
14:1Pursue the love, and be zealous for the spirituals! but more that you should prophesy.
14:2For the one speaking a language, speaks not to men, but to God. For no one hears, but in spirit he speaks mysteries.
14:3But the one prophesying, speaks to men for edifying and comfort and consolation.
14:4The one speaking a language edifies himself; but the one prophesying edifies the assembly.
14:5But I want you all to speak languages, but more that you prophesy; for greater is the one prophesying, than the one speaking languages, outside of unless he interprets, that the assembly should receive edification.
14:6And now, brethren, if I should come to you speaking languages, what shall I benefit you, unless I shall speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching?
14:7Even the lifeless things giving a sound, whether pipe, whether harp, if a distinction to the tones they should not give, how shall be known the thing piped, or the thing being harped?
14:8For also if a trumpet should give a concealed sound, who shall make preparations for battle?
14:9So also you through the tongue, if you should not give a well-marked word, how shall the thing being spoken be known, for you will be speaking into air.
14:10Since there are so many kinds of sounds by chance in the world, and none of them voiceless;
14:11if then I do not know the ability of the sound, I will be to the one speaking a barbarian; and the one speaking with me a barbarian.
14:12So also you, when you are zealous of spirits, seek that you should abound for the edification of the assembly!
14:13Therefore let the one speaking a language pray that he should interpret!
14:14For if I should pray in a language, my spirit prays, but my intellect is unfruitful.
14:15What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray also with the intellect. I will strum praise with the spirit, but I will strum praise also with the intellect.
14:16Since if you should bless with the spirit, the one filling the place of the common person, how shall he say the Amen at your thanksgiving, since what you say he does not know?
14:17For you indeed well give thanks, but the other is not edified.
14:18I give thanks to my God, speaking with languages more than all of you;
14:19but in the assembly I want to speak five words through my intellect, that also others I should instruct, rather than ten thousand words in a language.
14:20Brethren, be not children in the senses, but in evil act like infants, but in the senses become complete!
14:21In the law it has been written that, In other languages, and by other lips I shall speak to this people, and neither thus shall they listen to me, says the Lord.
14:22So that the languages are for a sign, not to the ones believing, but to the unbelievers; and prophecy is not to the unbelievers, but to the ones believing.
14:23If then the entire assembly should come together in one place, and all speak languages, and there should enter common people or unbelievers, shall they not say that you are maniacal?
14:24And if all prophesy, and there should enter some unbeliever or common person, he is reproved by all, he is examined by all;
14:25and thus the hidden things of his heart become open; and thus falling upon his face he does obeisance to God, reporting that God really is among you.
14:26What then is it, brethren? Whenever you should come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a language, has a revelation, has a translation; let all things be for edification!
14:27Whether anyone speaks a language, let it be two or the most three, and by turn, and let one interpret!
14:28And if there should not be an interpreter, let him be quiet in the assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God!
14:29And prophets, let two or three speak, and the others scrutinize!
14:30But if to another sitting by it should be revealed, let the first be quiet!
14:31For you are able one by one all to prophesy, that all should learn and all should be comforted.
14:32For spirits of prophets submit to prophets.
14:33For he is not the God of commotion, but peace, as in all the assemblies of the holy ones.
14:34Let your women in the assemblies be quiet! for it is not committed to their care to speak, but let them be submitted! as also the law says.
14:35But if any shall want to learn, in the house, let them ask their own husbands; for it is shameful for women to speak in assembly.
14:36Or came forth from you the word of God? or to you alone it arrived?
14:37If any thinks to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize what I write to you! that they are commandments of the Lord.
14:38But if any be ignorant, let him be ignorant!
14:39So that, brethren, be jealous to prophesy! and to speak languages be not restrained!
14:40All things decently and according to order let be!
