Jeremiah 26
26:1In the beginning of the reign of king Jehoiakim son of Josiah came this word from the lord.
26:2Thus said the lord, Stand in the courtyard of the house of the lord! and you shall execute an order to all Judah, to the ones coming to do obeisance in the house of the lord, all the words which I ordered to you to execute to them; you should not remove a thing.
26:3Perhaps they shall hear, and shall be turned each from his evil way, and I will cease from the bad things which I devise to do to them because of their evil practices.
26:4And you shall say, Thus said the lord, If you should not hearken to me to go by my laws which I put before your face,
26:5to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent to you at dawn, (for I sent, and you hearkened not to me;)
26:6then I will appoint this house as Shiloh, and this city I will appoint for a curse to all the nations of the earth.
26:7And they heard (the priests, and the false prophets, and all the people) Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the lord.
26:8And it came to pass of Jeremiah ceasing speaking all which the lord ordered to him to say to all the people, that they seized him -- the priests, and the false prophets, and all the people, saying, To death he shall die,
26:9for you prophesied in the name of the lord, saying, This house will be as Shiloh, and this city shall be made desolate of ones dwelling it. And all the people held an assembly against Jeremiah in the house of the lord.
26:10And the rulers of Judah heard these words, and they ascended from the house of the king unto the house of the lord; and they sat in the thresholds of the new gate of the lord.
26:11And the priests and the false prophets said to the rulers, and to all the people, The judgment of death belongs to this man, for he prophesied against this city, as you heard with your ears.
26:12And Jeremiah said to all the rulers, and to all the people, saying, The lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words which you heard.
26:13And now, you make your ways better, and your works, and hearken to the voice of the lord your God! and the lord will cease from the evils which he spoke against you.
26:14And behold, I am in your hands; do to me as is advantageous to you, and as best for you!
26:15But only in knowing know! that if you do away with me, you have imputed innocent blood against you, and against this city, and against the ones dwelling in it. For in truth the lord has sent me to you to speak into your ears all these words.
26:16And the rulers and all the people said to the priests and to the false prophets; There is not due to this man a judgment of death, for upon the name of the lord our God he spoke to us.
26:17And there rose up men of the elders of the land, and they said to all the gathering of people, saying,
26:18Micah the Morasthite was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus said the lord of the forces; Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem will be for a storehouse of fruits, and the mountain of the house shall be turned into a sacred grove.
26:19Did, by doing away, Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah do away with him? Was it not they feared the lord, and they beseeched in front of the lord, and the lord ceased from the evils which he spoke against them? And we did great evils against our souls.
26:20And there was another man prophesying in the name of the lord, Urijah son of Shemaiah from Kirjath-jearim; and he prophesied concerning this city, and concerning this land according to all the words of Jeremiah.
26:21And king Jehoiakim and all the rulers heard all his words, and sought to kill him. And Urijah heard and feared and fled and entered into Egypt.
26:22And the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him into Egypt.
26:23And they led him from there, and brought him to the king; and he struck him by the sword, and tossed him into the tomb of the sons of his people.
26:24Only the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so as to not deliver him into the hands of the people so as to not do away with him.
