2 Samuel 23
23:1And these are the last words of David. Trustworthy David, son of Jesse, and a trustworthy man whom God raised up -- anointed one of the God of Jacob, and for beauty is the psalm of Israel.
23:2Spirit of the lord spoke by me, and his word was upon my tongue.
23:3The God of Israel spoke to me; the guardian of Israel spoke, justice ruling among men, the prince in fear of God.
23:4And as the early morning light, the sun arises in the morning, and it shall not darken; from brightness and from out of rain as pasturage of the earth.
23:5For is not thus my house with God? for he established an eternal covenant with me, to deliver me, prepared at all time being guarded. For all my deliverance, and all my will is in the lord, for in no way shall the lawbreaker grow;
23:6as a thorn-bush being pushing out are all these; for no hand shall take them.
23:7And a man who shall labor among them, full of iron and wooden spear, and in fire burning, they shall be burnt in their shame.
23:8These are the names of the mighty ones of David. Joshabbasshebeth the Tachmonite -- this one is first of the three. Adino the Eznite -- this one unsheathed his broadsword against eight hundred slain at once.
23:9And with him is Eleazar son of Dodo, son of his uncle among the three mighty ones, this one was with David in his berating among the Philistines. And the Philistines gathered together there for war. And the men of Israel ascended before their face,
23:10and he rose up and struck the Philistines, until of which his hand tired, and his hand was cleaved upon the sword. And the lord made a great deliverance in that day. And the people returned after for despoiling.
23:11And after him Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines gathered together in Theria, and there was there a portion of a field full of lentils. And the people fled from the face of the Philistines.
23:12And he stood in the midst of the portion, and rescued it, and struck the Philistines. And the lord executed a great deliverance.
23:13And three from the thirty rulers went down, and they entered unto David into the cave of Adullam. And the battle order of the Philistines camped in the valley of Rephaim.
23:14And David was then in the citadel, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.
23:15And David desired, and said, Who will give me water to drink from the well, the one in Beth-lehem, of the one at the gate?
23:16And the three mighty ones tore up the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water from the well, of the one in Beth-lehem, of the one by the gate. And they took of it, and came to David. And he did not want to drink it, and he offered it a libation to the lord.
23:17And he said, Kindness be to me, O lord, to do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men going with their lives, no. And he did not want to drink it. These things the three mighty ones did.
23:18And Abishai the brother of Joab, son of Zeruiah, was foremost of the three. And he awakened his spear upon three hundred slain, and to him was a name among the three.
23:19Of the three he was honored, and was to them for ruler, and unto the first three he did not arrive at.
23:20And Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a mighty man, with great works from Kabzeel. This one struck the two sons of Ariel of Moab. And he went down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit in a snowy day.
23:21And he struck the Egyptian man, a remarkable man; and in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear. And he went down to him with a rod, and seized by force the wooden spear from out of the hand of the Egyptian, and killed him with his spear.
23:22These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did, and to him was a name among the three mighty ones.
23:23He was over the thirty honorable ones, but to the first three he did not arrive at. And David ordered him for his reports. And these are the names of the mighty ones of David the king.
23:24Asahel brother of Joab among the thirty. Elhanan son of Dodo his uncle in Beth-lehem.
23:25Shammah the Harodite. Elika the Harodite.
23:26Helez the Paltite. Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite.
23:27Abiezer the Anathothite. Mebunnai the Hushathite.
23:28Zalmon the Ahohite. Maharai the Netophathite.
23:29Heleb son of Baanah the Netophathite. Ittai son Ribai the one of the hill of Benjamin.
23:30Benaiah the Pirathonite. Hiddai from out of Naxali-Gaash.
23:31Abi-albon the Arbathite. Azmaveth the Barhumite.
23:32Eliahba the Shaalbonite. Sons of Jashen, Jonathan,
23:33Shammah the Hararite. Ahiam son of Sharar the Hararite.
23:34Eliphelet son of Ahasbai, son of the Maachathite. Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite.
23:35Hezrai the Carmelite. Paarai the Arbite.
23:36Igal son of Nathan of Zobah. Bani the Gadite.
23:37Zelek the Ammonite. Nahari the Beerothite, the one lifting the equipment of Joab son of Zeruiah.
23:38Ira the Ithrite. Gareb the Ithrite.
23:39Uriah the Hittite. In all thirty and seven.
