2 Kings 22

22:1Josiah was a son being eight years old in his taking reign, and thirty and one year s he reigned in Jerusalem. And the name of his mother was Jedidah, daughter of Adaiah of Boseath.

22:2And he did upright in the eyes of the lord, and he went in every way of David his father. He did not separate to the right nor the left.

22:3And it came to pass in the eighteenth year to king Josiah, the king sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the scribe of the house of the lord, saying,

22:4Ascend to Hilkiah the great priest, and set a seal upon the money! the money being carried into the house of the lord, which the ones guarding the money gathered together from the people.

22:5And let them put it into the hand of the ones doing the works, of the ones being ordained for the house of the lord! And he gave it to the ones doing the works in the house of the lord, to strengthen the breach of the house,

22:6to the fabricators, and to the builders, and to the stonemasons, and to acquire wood and quarried stones, to fortify the breach of the house.

22:7Only they did not call them to account for the money being given to them, for they act in trust.

22:8And Hilkiah the great priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I found a scroll of the law in the house of the lord. And Hilkiah gave to Shaphan the scroll, and he read it.

22:9And Shapan entered to king Josiah. And he turned to the king for a word, and said, Your servants cast the silver being found in the house of the lord, and they put it in the hand of the ones doing the works being ordained in the house of the lord.

22:10And Shaphan the scribe reported to the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest gave to me a scroll. And Shaphan read it before the king.

22:11And it came to pass as the king heard the words of the scroll of the law, that he tore his garments.

22:12And the king gave charge to Hilkiah the priest, and to Ahikam son of Shaphan, and to Achbor son of Michaiah, and to Shaphan the scribe, and to Asahiah the servant of the king, saying,

22:13Go, seek after the lord for me! and for all my people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this scroll being found; for great is the anger of the lord burning away against us, because our fathers hearkened not concerning the words of this scroll, to do according to all the things being written concerning us.

22:14And Hilkiah the priest went, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah to Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, the keeper of the cloaks. And she dwelt in Jerusalem in Masena. And they spoke to her.

22:15And she said to them, Thus says the lord the God of Israel, Speak to the man sending you to me,

22:16Thus says the lord, Behold, I bring bad things against this place, and against the ones dwelling in it -- all the words of the scroll of which the king of Judah read,

22:17because they abandoned me, and burned incense to other gods, that they should provoke me to anger in all the works of their hands. And my rage shall burn against this place, and shall not be extinguished.

22:18And to the king of Judah, the one sending you to inquire of the lord, thus you shall say to him, Thus says the lord God of Israel concerning the words which you heard;

22:19for because your heart was tender, and you felt shame in front of me, as you hear as much as I spoke concerning this place, and concerning the ones dwelling it, to be for extinction and for a curse, and you tore your garments, and you wept before me -- even indeed I heard, says the lord.

22:20Is it not so, behold, I add you to your fathers, and you shall be brought into your tomb in peace. And your eyes shall not see all the bad things which I bring against this place. And they returned to the king the word.
