1 Samuel 18
18:1And it came to pass as he finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was bound together to the soul of David; and Jonathan loved him according to his own soul.
18:2And Saul received him in that day, and he did not allow him to return to the house of his father.
18:3And Jonathan and David ordained a covenant, for he loved him according to his soul.
18:4And Jonathan took off the outer garment, the one upon him, and he gave it to David, and his uniform, unto his broadsword, and the bow, and his belt.
18:5And David went forth perceiving in all what ever Saul sent him. And Saul placed him over the men of war. And he pleased in the eyes of all the people, and also even in the eyes of the manservants of Saul.
18:6And it came to pass in his entering, when David returned striking the Philistine, that the women came forth joining in a dance and singing, to meet Saul the king from out of all the cities of Israel, with tambourines, and with joyfulness, and with cymbals.
18:7And the women took the lead playing, and said, Saul struck his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
18:8And Saul was provoked to anger, and the thing appeared as an exceeding sorry state before Saul concerning this word. And he said, They gave to David the ten thousands, and to me they gave the thousands. And what is there to him besides the kingdom?
18:9And Saul was suspecting David from that day and beyond.
18:10And it came to pass of the next day, that a ferocious spirit from God fell upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of his house; And David strummed with his hand as according to each day; and the wooden spear was in the hand of Saul.
18:11And Saul lifted the wooden spear and said, I will strike into David and into the wall. And David turned aside from his presence twice.
18:12And Saul feared from the face of David, for the lord was with him. And he left from Saul.
18:13And Saul removed him from himself, and placed him to himself as a commander of a thousand. And he went forth and entered before the people.
18:14And David was perceiving in all his ways, and the lord was with him.
18:15And Saul beheld as he perceived exceedingly, and he was cautious of his person.
18:16And all Israel and Judah loved David, for he entered and went forth before the face of the people.
18:17And Saul said to David, Behold, my daughter, the elder, Merab. I will give her to you for a wife, only become to me for a son of power, and wage war of the battles of the lord! And Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him!
18:18And David said to Saul, Who am I, and what is the life of the kin of my father in Israel, that I shall be an in-law of the king?
18:19And it came to pass in the time of the giving Merab daughter of Saul to David, that he gave her to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.
18:20And Michal the daughter of Saul loved David. And it was reported to Saul, and the thing was pleasing in his eyes.
18:21And Saul said, I will give her to him, and she shall be to him for an obstacle, and the hand of the Philistines shall be upon him. And Saul said to David a second time, You shall ally to me by marriage today.
18:22And Saul gave charge to his servants, saying, You speak in private to David, saying, Behold, the king's want is towards you, and all his servants love you, and thus you be allied by marriage to the king!
18:23And the servants of Saul spoke into the ears of David these things. And David said, Is it the light thing in your eyes to be allied by marriage to the king? And I am a humble man, and not esteemed?
18:24And the servants of Saul reported to him according to these words which David spoke.
18:25And Saul said, Thus shall you say to David, The king does not want a dowry, but only a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to avenge against the enemies of the king. And Saul devised to put David into the hands of the Philistines.
18:26And the servants of Saul told to David these things. And the word was straightened in the eyes of David to be allied by marriage to the king. And the days were not fulfilled.
18:27And David rose up and went himself and his men, and he struck among the Philistines two hundred men. And he brought their foreskins, and fulfilled them to the king; and he becomes allied by marriage to the king; and Saul gives to him Michal his daughter for a wife.
18:28And Saul beheld and knew that the lord was with David. And Michal his daughter and all Israel loved him.
18:29And Saul proceeded to fear from before David still. And Saul became hating David all the days.
18:30And the rulers of the Philistines came forth, and it came to pass from their fit expedition, that David perceived above all the servants of Saul. And his name was greatly esteemed.
